4330 Alloy Steel Bar: AMS6411 Certified

4330 is a modified version of the standard AISI 4330 composition, enhanced with the addition of vanadium to improve grain refinement and hardenability. The alloy is vacuum arc remelted (VAR) to produce an exceptionally clean steel with superior transverse mechanical properties, improved notch toughness, and enhanced resistance to crack propagation. In the heat-treated condition, 4330 alloy steel bar achieves high tensile and yield strength while maintaining good ductility and impact resistance.

The lower carbon content of 4330 compared to 4340 gives it an advantage in applications involving shock loading or stress concentration. Where 4340 offers marginally higher peak hardness, 4330 provides better toughness and ductility at comparable strength levels. This tradeoff makes 4330 the preferred choice for components subjected to repeated high-impact loads and fatigue cycling.

4330 alloy steel bar is used in landing gear components, flap track assemblies, actuator shafts, engine bolting, power transmission gears, and other airframe and engine parts that require high strength combined with impact resistance. Outside of aerospace, the alloy serves oil and gas drilling tools, downhole equipment, and power generation components exposed to extreme mechanical loads.
