Titanium

Titanium Sheets, Plates & Bars for Aerospace

Tailwind Aerospace Solutions supplies titanium sheet, plate, bar, rod, and tubing for aerospace, defense, medical, and marine applications. As an aerospace-grade titanium supplier certified to ISO 9001 and AS9100, we stock commercially pure and alloyed titanium grades with full mill traceability and the quality documentation your programs require. Titanium's high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility make it one of the most sought-after metals in aerospace and advanced manufacturing.

Our Quality Management System is certified to ISO 9001 and AS9100

Why Titanium?

Titanium delivers strength comparable to many steels at roughly 45% less density, providing significant weight savings in structural and rotating components. It forms a stable, self-healing oxide layer that gives it outstanding resistance to corrosion in seawater, chloride environments, and a wide range of industrial chemicals. Titanium also performs well at elevated temperatures and at cryogenic extremes, retaining mechanical properties across a service range of approximately -350°F to 750°F depending on alloy and temper.

Available Product Forms

  • Titanium Sheet and Plate: Tailwind stocks titanium plate and sheet in commercially pure and alloyed grades for airframe skins, firewall panels, exhaust shrouds, heat shields, and structural panels. Our sheet and plate inventory is certified to applicable AMS and ASTM specifications. View our full product listing on the specialty metals page.
  • Titanium Bar and Rod: We supply titanium bar in round, flat, and forging stock forms for machined fittings, fasteners, actuator housings, and engine components. Bar stock is available in annealed and solution treated and aged (STA) conditions.
  • Titanium Tubing: Tailwind carries titanium tubing for hydraulic systems, heat exchangers, and structural frameworks on commercial and military aircraft. Visit our Tubing page.

Grades We Stock

Our titanium inventory includes Grade 2 (commercially pure), Grade 5 (6AL-4V), Grade 9 (3AL-2.5V), and other specialty grades. 6AL-4V is the most widely specified titanium alloy in aerospace, accounting for the majority of titanium used in aircraft structures and engine components.

Common Applications

Titanium from Tailwind Aerospace Solutions is used in aircraft structural members, turbine engine compressor blades and discs, landing gear fittings, fasteners, hydraulic tubing, exhaust systems, surgical implants, marine hardware, and chemical processing equipment. The combination of low density, high strength, and corrosion resistance makes titanium the material of choice when weight reduction and long service life are priorities.

Why Source Titanium from Tailwind?

Our certifications to ISO 9001 and AS9100 demonstrate our commitment to the traceability and quality standards aerospace manufacturers demand. We offer material cut to size, value-added processing, and free delivery in Riverside, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, and San Diego Counties.

Frequently Asked Questions

Titanium delivers strength comparable to many steels at roughly 45 percent less density, providing significant weight savings in structural and rotating components. It also forms a stable, self-healing oxide layer that gives it outstanding corrosion resistance, and it retains its mechanical properties across a wide service range, from cryogenic temperatures to roughly 750°F depending on alloy and temper. This combination of light weight, strength, and durability is why titanium is so widely specified in aircraft structures and engine components.

Grade 2 is commercially pure titanium, valued for its excellent corrosion resistance, good ductility, and ease of forming and welding. Grade 5, also known as 6AL-4V, is an alpha-beta alloy containing aluminum and vanadium that delivers nearly three times the tensile strength of Grade 2, making it the standard choice for load bearing aerospace structures and precision machined parts, while Grade 2 remains the better option when formability and corrosion resistance in chemical or marine environments are the priority.

Grade 9, also known as 3AL-2.5V, offers a strength level between commercially pure titanium and 6AL-4V, along with good weldability and formability. It is often specified for aerospace hydraulic and structural tubing where a balance of strength, weight savings, and ease of fabrication is needed.

We stock titanium sheet and plate, bar and rod, and tubing. Sheet and plate are used for airframe skins, firewall panels, exhaust shrouds, heat shields, and structural panels. Bar is available in round, flat, and forging stock forms for machined fittings, fasteners, actuator housings, and engine components, in both annealed and solution treated and aged (STA) conditions. Tubing is stocked for hydraulic systems, heat exchangers, and structural frameworks.

Annealed titanium bar is processed for a good balance of strength and ductility, making it suitable for general machining and forming applications. Solution treated and aged (STA) bar undergoes additional heat treatment that increases tensile and yield strength significantly, making it the preferred condition for high strength applications such as aerospace fasteners and highly loaded structural components.
