Properties and Performance
In the T6 and T651 tempers, 7075 aluminum achieves ultimate tensile strengths between 74 and 78 ksi, making it the standard choice for highly stressed structural parts. The alloy offers good fatigue strength and fair machinability, with a fine grain structure that contributes to consistent tool wear during machining.
7075-T6, AMS-QQ-A-250/12 sheet and plate are widely specified for airframe skins and structural members. The T7x51 tempers offer superior stress corrosion cracking resistance compared to T6 and are increasingly specified for the most demanding structural applications. Chromium additions in the alloy composition provide additional resistance to stress corrosion in sheet products. Like 2024, bare 7075 is frequently supplied in clad (Alclad) form to improve corrosion protection.
